Get the Look ~ Mermaid Chic

As you know both Tammy and I sadly do not live near any Disney Park, but that doesn’t mean we don’t always bring a little Disney with us in our day to day lives. This past weekend I attended the Mermaid Parade at Coney Island here in NYC. So I figured this would be a great time to bust out my Rainbow Minnie Ears and some fun mermaid makeup.

The best part about this look is that it works on so many Disney levels so I thought I’d share the products I used for this look.

Mermaid/Fantasy Makeup Look

Starting with clean, well moisturized skin apply a thin, even layer of the Dermablend Jelly Primer. This primer not only gives you a good base to work with but also is the perfectly tacky to make sure foundation doesn’t slip off.

Next apply a good medium to full coverage foundation. I used the IT Cosmetics Bye, Bye Foundation which has SPF 50. Just remember that if your foundation does not already have SPF in it to apply SPF BEFORE step one.  Once the foundation is all set, lock it into place with the Dermablend Loose Setting Powder.

Now the eyes, which are the star of the show here. Start with your favorite eye primer (I use MAC Paint Pot if soft ochre). Now the fun part, creating a rainbow effect on the eyes.

I used the Love You So Mochi Electric Pastels and the Ultimate Muli-Finish Electric Tones palettes from NYX Cosmetics. Instead of giving a step by step of what I did, I encourage you to just play with the colors till you find the look you want. I went with a more rainbow look to match the Minnie Ears but you might want to experiment and play with different color combinations.

Finish off the eyes with a little pop of jewel-toned eyeliner, I used Pixi Beauty Silky Eye Pen in Velvet Violet. Top that with a good coat of mascara, my current favorite is Maybelline’s Total Temptation which works great for sensitive eyes.

Use a bronzer to warm up the face a bit, I love the Bronze & Glow Face Sculpt from Charlotte Tilbury but a good cost effective option is the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer.

Next up is highlight! Since is this a more mermaid/fantasy look, I went in with the highlighter, more so than I usually do. Start off with the NARS Orgasm Illuminating Loose Powder on the high planes of the cheek bones and temples. Follow that with the lavender shade from the NYX Strobe of Genius palette.

Feel free to just play with the highlighters you own to bring your look to life.

On the lips I wanted to go bold so I went with Kylie Cosmetics June Bug matte lip kit with CoverFX Halo drops on top to really give off that mermaid/fantasy look. Finally, set with your favorite setting spray, here I used the Dermablend Power Setter.

I had a blast creating this look and getting to use more of the fun, funky, festival palettes and colors I had laying around. I cannot wait until I can take some of these colors to a Disney Park with some fun DisneyBound looks.
